1973 High Class Replica of a Strutt Epicyclic Skeleton Clock by Dent
1973 High Class Replica of a Strutt Epicyclic Skeleton Clock by Dent
Englishman William Strutt designed the epicyclic, or planetary, gear for a timepiece in 1829. An epicyclic gear, like the one that powers this clock, functions similarly to our solar system. There is a central/sun gear that drives surrounding planet gears contained within an outer ring. Due to the complexity of these timepieces, very few were made.
This fine skeleton timepiece is a replica and was crafted in the early 1970’s. By Dent and Franklin of London. Only 100 we're ever made. It showcases the 8 day epicycloidal fusee drive anchor escapement beautifully. Adding to the wonderful artistry of this clock is the pierced and silvered radial dial with large Arabic numerals. In addition, the clock is mounted on a brass base and is in a glass case.
